ABOUT US

The Pet Care Partnership was established to unite professionals who are deeply committed to integrating animal welfare into the foundation of their business models. By bringing together like-minded carers under a unified banner, the organisation creates a trusted community where animal well-being is the primary priority. For pet owners, the partnership serves as a vital resource, offering a Business Directory of verified professionals who demonstrate a genuine, ethical commitment to the animals in their charge.

Advocacy and Ethical Boundaries

A cornerstone of membership is the active advocacy for animal welfare. We welcome businesses that are prepared to speak out when they encounter substandard care or environments that do not meet an animal’s basic needs. This commitment to “putting pets first” often involves making difficult but necessary business decisions, such as:

  • Speaking Up: Identifying and addressing pet care situations that are less than ideal.
  • Refusing Unsuitable Work: Declining work offers when the frequency of visits, the physical environment, or the specific conditions are deemed inappropriate for the animal’s health or temperament.
  • Skill-Based Standards: Our core values dictate that members only accept work they have the specific knowledge and experience to perform to an exceptional standard.

Comprehensive Member Support and Education

To ensure these high standards are met, members are provided with an array of business tools and educational resources. This support system is designed to empower carers to navigate complex discussions with clients and maintain excellence in their services:

  • Training and Development: Members gain access to online courses and webinars covering diverse subjects, from understanding the specific health needs of different species to improving communication and correspondence skills.
  • Conflict Avoidance: While we advocate for animals, we do not encourage conflict with customers, as this is detrimental to both the animal and the business. Instead, we provide tools to facilitate productive, welfare-focused dialogues.
  • Access to Partners: Where member’s needs may fall outside of the scope of The Pet Care Partnership, members have access to a range of verified partner services to continue their journey, often at preferential rates.

By collaborating through this network, we are collectively raising the standards of pet care by putting animal welfare at the heart of business.

Who Are We?

Becca Wilson

Becca Wilson founded The Pet Care Partnership. In 2008, Becca launched her first pet care business, Friends for Pets, in Somerset. With rapid success and growth, Becca franchised the company in 2011. This was to maintain the highest standards of customer service and animal welfare by using local managers instead of remote management. The brand now operates several franchises, each employing small teams of highly trained, insured, and licensed pet carers (if offering dog boarding). Friends for Pets serves around 600 clients each month. Before launching Friends for Pets, Becca earned an MSc in Animal Science, specialising in Behaviour and Welfare, and a BSc in Neuroscience with a focus on Neuropsychology. She also became a qualified animal science and veterinary lecturer. Becca worked abroad for a charity as an Animal Scientist, teaching vets and animal health workers about animal behaviour and welfare. She has taught undergraduate vet students in the UK and Further Education students about Animal Science and is also a qualified Pet First Aid Instructor. Becca is also a founder and course writer of the Pet Academy. Becca has also consulted on the development and review of The Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.

How are you different to other platforms?

We have concerns over the criteria, or lack of, some platforms have for their pet care providers. For example, some platforms allow their pet care providers to advertise home boarding services without having a boarding licence from their local authority. Other platforms solely offer an advertising directory, we have bigger plans!

Although there are lots of platforms and agencies, none offer what we plan to. Most are formed by tech experts rather than people that have lived and breathed the pet industry for almost two decades.

The humans in our head office personally check out the accreditations and paperwork of each of our applicants before listing them.

We can’t wait to share this with you! But for now this is top secret while we finalise the plans. You can sign up for our newsletter on our freebies page, follow our socials or become a free member to be notified as we announce and launch each part of the project.
